Oak Grove Throw Blanket: Sections 7 and 8, & Blanket Border
The last two sections and the border of this beautiful stitch sampler throw blanket are finally here, and the fun of the Oak Grove Throw Blanket Stitch Sampler CAL is coming to an end! Sections 7 and 8 feature the Shell stitch and the Cluster V-Stitch, both of which fit in wonderfully alongside the first six sections. The blanket border is worked in the round with simple single crochet stitches that create a bold edging to frame the separate sections. Keep scrolling to find out more about the blanket, the CAL, and the last few pieces of the pattern!

What is a Crochet-A-Long?
You might be wondering, what is a crochet-a-long? A crochet-a-long is an event in the crochet community where everyone works at the same time to complete a project or a set of projects.
While each crochet-a-long, or CAL, is different, there are some common components that appear in most events. The featured pattern is released in sections and everyone participating works on the section at the same time. Sometimes, a CAL features a set of patterns. In that case, each pattern is released individually so that everyone is working on the same project at once.

The Oak Grove Throw Blanket CAL is a free event hosted here on the blog and in the Measured and Stitched Crochet Community Facebook Group. While it’s not required to join the group in order to participate, the group will give you an opportunity to connect with others who enjoy making easy throw blankets and learning new skills.
The Facebook group is where you can get updates about the section being released each week, ask questions, and show off your blanket as you work. I’ll also be sharing a short tutorial video in the group each week to talk about the featured stitches and share tips about working through the weekly portion of the project.
Oak Grove Throw Blanket Section 7 and Section 8
The Oak Grove Throw Blanket has been a fun adventure! I have loved working with different stitches in each section. If you’re new to making stitch sampler projects, this is definitely a great place to start. Each section uses combinations of standard, easy stitches to create a beautiful blanket that will be treasured for years to come.
The last two sections will use the remaining yarn from Color C, Olive Drab, and Color D, Mustard. I chose to use fall colors when creating the sample for this design, but you can use any set of coordinating or complimentary colors that you’d like.
Section 7 features the 3 Double Crochet Shell stitch. This easy stitch is made my completing three double crochet stitches in the same stitch or space. I enjoy using this simple stitch to add a little bit of flair to a project without adding any level of difficulty.
In Section 8 we’ll be using the Cluster V-Stitch and the 3 Double Crochet Shell. This section will create small vertical sections, just like the other even-numbered sections, which will keep the balance of horizontal and vertical textures within the pattern. I discovered the Cluster V-Stitch this year and have used it in several other designs! If you love this stitch, too, be sure to check out the Mountainside Blooms Throw Blanket and the Mountainside Blooms Baby Blanket patterns.
Oak Grove Throw Blanket: Blanket Border
The border for this blanket is made entirely using single crochet stitches. Some of the rows are worked in the back loop to create a beautiful physical and visual texture. This border is quite a bit thicker than I normally make, but it was designed to complement the divider sections. It’s the same size as the divider, approximately 2 inches wide, so that it evenly offsets the larger sections.
Skill Level
Easy
Materials
To make the entire Oak Grove Throw Blanket, you’ll need:
2,211 yards, size 4 worsted weight yarn in the following colors and amounts:
- Color A – Cinnamon – 374 yds/317 meters
- Color B – Taupe – 325 yds/297 meters
- Color C – Olive Drab – 350 yds/320 meters
- Color D – Mustard – 341 yds/312 meters
- Color E – Soft Grey – 821 yds/751 meters
I used 1 skein each of Cinnamon, Taupe, Olive Drab, and Mustard, and 3 skeins of Soft Grey of Big Twist Value yarn <6 oz/170 g> <380 yds/347 m>
US size K/10.5 crochet hook (6.50 mm)
Scissors, yarn needle
Stitch markers
For Section 7 and Section 8, you’ll need the remaining portion of the yarn listed for Color C and Color D. For the divider and the border, you’ll use the remainder of Color E.
Gauge
12 stitches x 14 rows = 4″ square
Pattern used for gauge: rows of sc
Finished Size
Your finished blanket will be approximately 48″ wide by 60″ long, which is the size of a standard throw blanket.
Each section is approximately 48 inches wide by 5 inches tall, and each divider is approximately 48 inches wide by 2 inches tall. This will vary depending on your hook size and tension.
