Blankets are my favorite type of crochet project – and baby blankets are the type that I love making the most. I thoroughly enjoy the entire process of choosing the pattern, the yarn colorway(s), and imagining how it would look in the little one’s nursery as I work. Truth be told, baby blankets were the first items I started designing, even before I began dreaming about becoming a crochet pattern designer. This textured baby blanket was a lot of fun to design because it combines visual appeal and practical use, all using simple stitches and techniques. Twin Ridges Baby Blanket
The Twin Ridges baby blanket gets its name because it has sets of parallel – or twin – ridges made with front and back post stitches set vertically throughout the pattern while also having a subtle horizontal texture made by stitching in only one loop. And, since this design is made with size 3 yarn designed specifically for little ones, this textured baby blanket is also amazingly soft and snuggly even with all of the beautiful detail.

1,200 yards, size 3 light worsted weight yarn . I used 4 skeins of Baby Bee Sweet Delight Print (4 oz/115 gm, 377 yds/345 m) in the Tricycle Time colorway
US size G crochet hook (4.25 mm)
Scissors, yarn needle

16 stitches x 8 rows = 4″ square

Front Post Treble Crochet (FPtr)
Front Post Treble Crochet (FPtr) – yo 2 times, insert hook from front to back to front around the post of the indicated st, yo and pull up a loop that is even with the top of the working row, [yo and pull through 2 loops] 3 times.

Part 1: Blanket Body
Ch 119
Row 1: dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. <117 dc (turning ch counts as 1 dc)>
Row 2: ch 2 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc FLO in each of next 4 sts, [BPtr around next st, dc FLO in next st, BPtr around next st, dc FLO in next 5 sts] 13 times, BPtr around next st, dc FLO in next st, BPtr around next st, dc FLO in next 4 sts, dc in top of turning ch, turn. <89 dc, 28 BPtr>
Row 3: ch 2 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in each of next 4 sts, [FPtr around next st, dc in next st, FPtr around next st, dc 5 sts] 13 times, FPtr around next st, dc in next st, FPtr around next st, dc in next 4 sts, dc in top of turning ch, turn. <89 dc, 28 FPtr>

Rnd 1:
Top: ch 1, 2 sc in same st, sc in each of next 115 sts, 2 sc in next st, do not turn. <119 sc>
Left: rotate 90 degrees, [2 sc in end of each dc row] 76 times, do not turn. <152 sc>
Bottom: rotate 90 degrees, 2 sc in bottom of 1st ch, 1 sc in each of next 115 chs, 2 sc in last ch, do not turn. <119 sc>
Right: [2 sc in end of each dc row] 76 times, sl st to join in top of beginning sc. <152 sc>
Rnd 2: ch 1, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 117 sts, 2 sc in next st, rotate 90 degrees, 1 sc in each of next 152 sts, 2 sc in next st, rotate 90 degrees, 1 sc in each of next 117 sts, 2 sc in next st, rotate 90 degrees, 1 sc in each of next 153 sts, sl st to join in top of beginning sc.
Fasten off. Weave in ends and block to desired dimensions.
