Oak Grove Throw Blanket, Section 5 & Section 6, Free Crochet Pattern

This post contains the instructions to create Section 5 and Section 6 of the Oak Grove Throw Blanket. The sections are being released throughout the month of November 2024 as part of the Oak Grove Throw Blanket Crochet-A-Long. What is a Crochet-A-Long?

You might be wondering, what is a crochet-a-long? A crochet-a-long is an event in the crochet community where everyone works at the same time to complete a project or a set of projects.

While each crochet-a-long, or CAL, is different, there are some common components that appear in most events. The featured pattern is released in sections and everyone participating works on the section at the same time. Sometimes, a CAL features a set of patterns. In that case, each pattern is released individually so that everyone is working on the same project at once.

The Oak Grove Throw Blanket CAL is a free event hosted here on the blog and in the Measured and Stitched Crochet Community Facebook Group. While it’s not required to join the group in order to participate, the group will give you an opportunity to connect with others who enjoy making easy throw blankets and learning new skills.

The Facebook group is where you can get updates about the section being released each week, ask questions, and show off your blanket as you work. I’ll also be sharing a short tutorial video in the group each week to talk about the featured stitches and share tips about working through the weekly portion of the project.

Oak Grove Throw Blanket Section 5 and Section 6

I am really enjoying working this stitch sampler throw blanket! Knowing that I’ll finish up a portion of the blanket after just a few rows has made me extremely motivated to finish the project. I love all of the texture and color changes, and it’s been lots of fun to work with so many stitches.

In these two sections, we’ll be going back to using Color A and Color B. The deep, rich colors of this fall color palette are absolutely gorgeous! With color names like “Cinnamon” and “Taupe”, I can’t help but feel the crisp, fall air every time I work on this project.

crochet project with v-stitch and prairie stitch

Section 5 features the modified Prairie stitch. I used this stitch in the Pebblebrook Dishcloth and loved it so much that I knew it would make it’s way into other patterns. Created with strategically placed half-double crochet stiches, the Prairie stitch adds a beautiful texture to any project.

In Section 6 we get back to using horizontal rows to create a vertical section. We’ll still be using mostly double crochet, but this time we’re incorporating the v-stitch to create vertical panels. This easy stitch is lots of fun to use in a pattern because it is as eye-catching as it is simple. Whether you’re an experienced stitcher or new to the craft, you’ll love how the v-stitch looks within this blanket.
