Oak Grove Throw Blanket, Section 3 & Section 4, Free Crochet Pattern

This post contains the instructions to create Section 3 and Section 4 of the Oak Grove Throw Blanket. The sections are being released throughout the month of November 2024 as part of the Oak Grove Throw Blanket Crochet-A-Long. Visit the event post to find out more about the pattern, get details about the event, and find the links to other sections of the pattern.

What is a Crochet-A-Long?

You might be wondering, what is a crochet-a-long? A crochet-a-long is an event in the crochet community where everyone works at the same time to complete a project or a set of projects.

While each crochet-a-long, or CAL, is different, there are some common components that appear in most events. The featured pattern is released in sections and everyone participating works on the section at the same time. Sometimes, a CAL features a set of patterns. In that case, each pattern is released individually so that everyone is working on the same project at once.

The Oak Grove Throw Blanket CAL is a free event hosted here on the blog and in the Measured and Stitched Crochet Community Facebook Group. While it’s not required to join the group in order to participate, the group will give you an opportunity to connect with others who enjoy making easy throw blankets and learning new skills.

The Facebook group is where you can get updates about the section being released each week, ask questions, and show off your blanket as you work. I’ll also be sharing a short tutorial video in the group each week to talk about the featured stitches and share tips about working through the weekly portion of the project.

Oak Grove Throw Blanket Section 3 and Section 4

The Oak Grove Throw Blanket is the very first stitch sampler crochet throw blanket I’ve ever designed, but it won’t be my last. I like the “quick wins” that are achieved by completing each small section, and the change in the pattern every few rows helped me complete the project quickly. While the 8 sections of the Oak Grove Throw Blanket each feature a different stitch or stitch combination, they all work together to create a unique and beautiful piece of home decor.

If you’re using 5 colors to make your blanket, you’ll be adding the last two colors by completing these two sections. I normally don’t use so many color changes, but it is absolutely perfect to have so many colors within this stitch sampler blanket. It really helps make the blanket unique and highlight the change in sections!

Section 3 features the modified Lemon Peel stitch. This is one of the very first textured stitches I ever learned, and it is really easy to do. The modified Lemon Peel stitch is made up of rows of alternating single crochet and double crochet stitches. When these rows are stacked on top of each other the rows create a really amazing subtle texture that looks great in a variety of projects.

Section 4 is made almost entirely of double crochet stitches, but that doesn’t mean that it’s boring! These basic stitches are strategically grouped to create vertical rows throughout the section. This is the second of four sections that include a vertical element, and it’s one of the things I like most about this blanket.

12 stitches x 14 rows = 4″ square
