Canyon Trail Scarf
I love using simple stitches to create patterns. The V-stitch is one of my favorites because it is easy for everyone and it can be used to give the project some visual intrigue. In this case, the design has a small sections of v-stitches in each row that create a vertical pattern in the scarf.
I live in a warmer part of the US, so it’s very common for it to be cold in the early morning but warm in the afternoon. I like scarfs because they’re an easy way to fight off the cool weather without having to wear heavy winter clothes! If you like having a removable accessory that helps you stay warm when you need it (but lets you adjust when the day warms up), then this scarf is perfect for your next project.
The Yarn
Bulky weight or “chunky” yarn is great for accessories for several reasons. First, it gives your item a thicker finish. A scarf made out of bulky weight yarn will keep you warmer than a scarf made out of sport weight yarn. Secondly, it makes the item work up more quickly. Bulkier yarn needs bigger hooks, which means less time spent making and more time spent enjoying the item and the adventures you go on.
I chose Yarn Bee Tender Touch for this project because it has a really soft feel while still being sturdy enough for daily use. The Seaglass colorway is a beautiful shade of blue-green that adds a pop of color to your outfit while not being overwhelmingly loud and distracting. No matter what color you choose, the Canyon Trail Scarf will look great as an accent to your outfit.

300 yards, size 5 bulky weight yarn. I used 3 skeins Yarn Bee Tender Touch <3 oz/85 gm><135 yds/123 m> in the Seaglass colorway.
US size J/10 crochet hook (6.00 mm)

ch – chain
dc – double crochet

Pattern Notes
The ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a st.
The ch 2 at the beginning of a row counts as 1 dc.
In Row 4 and any repeat of Row 4, all V-sts are completed in the ch-1 sp of the V-st in the previous row.

How to Make This V-Stitch Crochet Scarf
Part 1: Scarf Body
Ch 22
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. <21 sc>.
Row 2: ch 1, sc in 1st st and in each st across, turn. <21 sc>
Row 3: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc here and throughout), dc in next st, sk next st, V-st in next st, sk 2 sts, V-st in next st, sk next st, dc in each of next 5 sts, sk next st, V-st in next st, sk 2 sts, V-st in next st, sk next st, dc in each of last 2 sts, turn. <9 dc, 4 V-sts>

Rows 5 – 104: repeat Row 4 100 times
Row 105: ch 1, sc in 1st st and in each st and ch-1 sp across, sc in top of turning ch, turn. <21 sc>
Row 106: ch 1, sc in 1st st and in each st across. <21 sc>
At the end of Row 106, do not turn and do not fasten off. Proceed to border.
Part 2: Border
Rotate 90 degrees
Left side: ch 1, work 208 sc evenly along the left side of the blanket by placing 1 sc in the end of each sc row and 2 sc in the end of each dc row, rotate 90 degrees. <208 sc>
Bottom: 2 sc in bottom of 1st ch, 1 sc in each of next 19 chs, 2 sc in last ch, rotate 90 degrees. <23 sc>
Right side: work 208 sc evenly along the right side of the blanket by placing 1 sc in the end of each sc row and 2 sc in the end of each dc row, rotate 90 degrees. <208 sc>
Top: 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 19 sts, 2 sc in last st, sl st in top of sc to join. <23 sc>
Fasten off. Weave in ends and block to desired dimensions.
