What is a Crochet-A-Long?

You might be wondering, what is a crochet-a-long? A crochet-a-long is an event in the crochet community where everyone works at the same time to complete a project or a set of projects.

While each crochet-a-long, or CAL, is different, there are some common components that appear in most events. The featured pattern is released in sections and everyone participating works on the section at the same time. Sometimes, a CAL features a set of patterns. In that case, each pattern is released individually so that everyone is working on the same project at once.

Oak Grove Throw Blanket Stitch Sampler CAL Schedule

This is the first of four posts in the Oak Grove Throw Blanket Stitch Sampler CAL, which contains the portions of the pattern for Section 1 and Section 2. The remainder of the sections will be released according to the schedule below.

  • Friday, November 22, 2024 – Sections 5 and 6
  • Friday, November 29, 2024 – Sections 7, 8, and the blanket border

Join in the Crochet-A-Long-Fun!

The Oak Grove Throw Blanket CAL is a free event hosted here on the blog and in the Measured and Stitched Crochet Community Facebook Group. While it’s not required to join the group in order to participate, the group will give you an opportunity to connect with others who enjoy making easy throw blankets and learning new skills.

The Facebook group is where you can get updates about the section being released each week, ask questions, and show off your blanket as you work. I’ll also be sharing a short tutorial video in the group each week to talk about the featured stitches and share tips about working through the weekly portion of the project.

Oak Grove Throw Blanket Section 1 and Section 2

The Oak Grove Throw Blanket is a stitch sampler crochet throw blanket made up of 8 sections that are designed to be different, yet complimentary. Each section highlights a different stitch, and rows of half-double crochet and single crochet work together to tie it all together. I really enjoyed designing this blanket because it really let me be creative!

Section 1 features the Suzette stitch, which is a beautiful (and easy) textured stitch made up of a combination of single crochet and double crochet.

Section 2 uses small groupings of crossed double crochet to make small vertical sections while still working in horizontal rows. Using the join-as-you-go method, this blanket flows easily from one section to the next.
